Our Approach

A Different Kind of Practice

Built on the perspective gained from being the client.

After two decades advising operating companies from the inside, I founded Markeson Law Firm to provide the type of outside counsel I valued most: experienced, practical, and genuinely engaged with the business. The firm is designed for complex transactions and projects where continuity, commercial judgment, and a clear understanding of the client's priorities lead to more focused advice and better business outcomes.

Senior Attention, Start to Finish

Every matter is handled directly by Katie Markeson. Drawing on extensive experience leading complex EPC, equipment supply, and commercial transactions, Katie provides continuity, responsiveness, and practical judgment from initial strategy through execution.

In-House Perspective

Years spent advising operations, supply chain, engineering, and construction leaders from inside global energy and industrial companies shape the firm's approach. Clients receive counsel that is commercial, practical, and focused on the business outcome, with an understanding of deal economics, schedule pressure, and the real-world consequences of contract language.

Built for Execution

Structured to move at the pace of your business, the firm aligns its approach with each client's objectives, risk profile, and commercial priorities. Work is thorough where the risk demands it and streamlined where it does not, helping transactions and projects move forward efficiently.

Practice Area 01

Energy & Infrastructure

Counsel to developers, owners, operators, and equipment suppliers across the energy value chain. The firm advises on the agreements that move projects from greenfield through long-term operation, including development documents, power purchase agreements, equipment procurement, EPC and balance-of-plant contracts, interconnection, and long-term service and asset management arrangements. Work spans solar, wind, battery storage, conventional generation, and transmission infrastructure, with deal experience across North America, Latin America, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific.

Construction & Major Projects

EPC, design-build, procurement, and the contracts that govern execution at scale.

Major capital projects succeed or fail on the strength of their underlying contracts. The firm structures and negotiates the full suite of construction and procurement instruments: EPC and design-build agreements, balance-of-plant contracts, supply-and-install arrangements, long-lead equipment procurement, commissioning and performance testing protocols, warranty regimes, and change-order frameworks. Clients include project owners, developers, contractors, and OEMs navigating the operational and financial risk inherent to large infrastructure builds.

Commercial & Transactional

Commercial agreements, technology transactions, strategic partnerships, M&A, and fractional general counsel services.

The firm advises clients on commercial matters supporting day-to-day operations, strategic growth, and significant transactions. Work includes services and supply agreements, distribution and channel arrangements, OEM and private-label agreements, technology transfer, intellectual property and licensing matters, joint ventures, stock and asset purchases, corporate governance, and other strategic commercial arrangements. Fractional general counsel engagements are available for companies that need experienced legal leadership without a full-time hire.

Data Center & Digital Infrastructure

Transactional counsel for the companies building, powering, and operating the digital economy's physical infrastructure.

The world's digital infrastructure runs on physical assets: data center campuses, transmission and power equipment, cooling and grid technology, and the complex supply chains that build them. The firm offers transactional counsel to hyperscalers, data center developers and operators, EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers on the construction, procurement, energy, and infrastructure agreements that support data center buildout. Particular depth in the energy and infrastructure interfaces that distinguish data center projects: behind-the-meter generation, large-load utility coordination, on-site storage, and grid stability commitments.
